The idea of this page is to talk about a book each issue. In this issue, i picked this novel "Lord of the flies." it's an interesting novel and i enjoyed reading it. Heres a short preview about the idea of the novel and the chraracters...

During an unnamed time of war, a plane carrying a group of British schoolboys is shot down over the Pacific. The pilot of the plane is killed, but many of the boys survive the crash and find themselves deserted on an uninhabited island, where they are alone without adult supervision

The main characters of the novels are

Ralph:  he has fair hair and is very tall and thin. he was elected the leader of the boys at the beginning of the novel Ralph is the primary representative of order, civilization, and

productive leadership in the novel. While most of the other boys initially are concerned with playing, having fun, and avoiding work, Ralph sets about building huts and thinking of ways to maximize their chances of being rescued

Jack:
Jack is described as "tall, thin, and bony; and his hair was red beneath the black cap. His face was crumpled and freckled, and ugly without silliness. Out of this face stared two light blue eyes, frustrated now, and turning, or ready to turn, to anger. Jack is the leader of the savage tribe which hunts the pigs. Opposed to Ralph and Piggy on almost all matters, Jack represents the id of one’s personality— he supports the notion that one’s desires are most important and should be followed, regardless of reason or morals. Jack is the kind of person which Golding believed everyone would eventually become if left alone to set one’s own standards and live theway one naturally wanted

Piggy:He is sensible and rational boy .Piggy is described as short and very fat. It’s no coincidence that Piggy’s nickname is such; the overwhelming emotion Jack and his hunters have to "kill the pig" is an indirect and clever author metaphor to suggest the boys are also killing a part of Piggy. Piggy is obsessed with the signal-fire. This is because he wants to return to England where adults are.

Simon:Simon is described by Golding as one of the in-between boys-- a "skinny, vivid little boy" with straight, coarse black hair. He takes life much more seriously than the others, Simon is unique because he can actually hear the voice of the beast. He realizes that the beast is not something one can kill because it’s inside the boys

The Lord of the Flies

The Lord of the Flies is the bloody, severed sow's head that Jack impales on a stake in the forest glade as an offering to the beast. This complicated symbol becomes the most important image in the novel when Simon confronts the sow's head in the glade and it seems to speak to him, telling him that evil lies within every human heart and promising to have some “fun” with him. the Lord of the Flies recalls the devil, just as Simon recalls Jesus. In fact, the name “Lord of the Flies” is a literal translation of the name of the biblical name Beelzebub, a powerful demon in hell sometimes thought to be the devil himself.
